Carolyn Kaster is a Chief Photographer for the Associated Press. After 15 years in Washington, D.C., she is currently based in Cincinnati, Ohio, to focus on news, long-form issue reporting, and mentoring.
She has documented seven presidential campaigns and four administrations. She covers sports, the Olympics, and breaking news worldwide and across platforms. She works to be inclusive and connect with people.
Her work has been honored by Pictures of the Year International, the National Press Photographers Association, and the White House News Photographers Association. She was part of a team that received the 2022 Wilbur Award for Best Online News Story from the Religion Communicators Council. In addition, Kaster photographed the impacts of COVID on the people of the Navajo Nation as a grantee of the Pulitzer Center and was part of the Associated Press team that won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for Public Service.
